FAQs

King Grove Organic Farm blueberries taste different (and better) because they are grown in healthy, fertile soil and handled with painstaking care.

Unlike many blueberries ours are not treated with toxic chemicals including ones that alter the blueberry plant’s reproductive patterns so that it takes all of its remaining energy into trying to reproduce (i.e. flower and fruit).  King Grove Organic Farm blueberry plants are allowed to fruit and flower at their natural pace resulting in less stress to the plant and better tasting blueberries.

Many other blueberry plants (including the majority of USDA Certified Organic ones) are now grown hydroponically in plastic containers, on top of plastic weed mat and fed liquid feed through tubes.  Our blueberry roots instead are sustained by all of the elements that a healthy, fertile soil offers.  We believe that by continually improving our soil, that healthy soil feeds the plants, and the plants in turn feed us; producing the most amazing blueberries you’ve tasted!

King Grove Organic Farm blueberries are treated with great care every step of the way to you.  They’re harvested at peak ripeness and, within a few hours of being picked, they are already packed and cooled to 34F.  They stay at that temperature on our farm until we put them in our trucks and get them to you, just as quickly as we reasonably can.

King Grove Organic Farm blueberries are not only USDA Certified organic but they are also Certified by the Real Organic Project.

The Real Organic Project was started by farmers to protect the meaning of organic. Certified Real Organic farms grow food in the soil, not hydroponically. They raise livestock on pasture, not in confinement. In this time of concern about the erosion of integrity in the USDA, Real Organic remains exactly what organic was always intended to be.

King Grove Organic Farm blueberries are grown on King Grove Organic Farm in Eustis, Florida.    We believe they are the freshest, best tasting, most nutritious springtime blueberries you can find anywhere!

King Grove was originally established in 1874 by John King who moved from Buffalo, New York to central Florida with his young family.  They travelled by steamship to Savannah, Georgia and from there by horseback to the land that became their farm in Eustis.  John King built a house between two lakes and planted one of the first orange groves in Florida.

The current steward of the land is Hugh Kent, who is from one of the oldest farming families in New England.  Located in a pristine part of rural Lake County, surrounded by lakes and conservation land, King Grove is now a USDA Certified, Real Organic Project Certified organic farm.  Along with the blueberry fields, the farm’s 150 acres include pine plantations, wildflower plantings, old growth woods and protected wetlands.  Hugh runs the farm and manages the property with his wife Lisa.

Our blueberries are harvested in the springtime of each year for about 10 weeks, however, exact dates are difficult to predict (although they almost always include Easter, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day).  Once we begin harvesting, we offer two ways for you to get our blueberries.   All require orders to be placed through our online store prior to pick up or shipping.

We may be open for You-Pick for a couple of select days in 2024.  The dates and times will be announced via email only.  Please sign up for our email notifications if you would like to be notified of You-Pick days.

If you missed picking up your order from the Farm, we can offer a credit for the amount of your order that can be used to purchase products for pick up in the future or used to ship products to your home. Please click here to contact us to request a credit. (Please include your order number!)

Please note that we are unable to accept order cancellations and provide refunds within one day of the Farm Pick Up.

We sell our blueberries in one pack size, a 5 pound box.    We know it may seem like a lot of blueberries, but once you try them, you will wish you had more!  Here are a few testimonials from our customers…..

- The blueberries were delicious, the pickup was safe and easy. I had thought that 5 pounds was ridiculous for a family of 3, but that is what freezers are for. How wrong was I! They were so good, they were gone in 2 days. Teenagers!!! I just bought 2 more boxes. Truly beautiful berries.

- AND THEY ARE AMAZING! We almost finished the whole box off in two days.

- My husband and I ate a 5lb box of your blueberries in just 4 days! 😂 So, we just picked up another box today. So delicious!

However, our blueberries are very easy to freeze too!  Just make sure the berries are dry (no condensation) before you put them in a freezer bag; then just pop them in the freezer!

We recommend that you take out just the amount of frozen berries that you want to use and thaw them by placing them in room temperature water(about 2 cups of water for each handful of blueberries) (we use a glass measuring cup) for about 5 minutes until they are thawed.  They retain their shape beautifully and taste great!   Otherwise, you can just give them a quick rinse and pop them right in your mouth!

5-pounds of blueberries is just under 1 gallon. We designed our 5-pound boxes to fit nicely on your refrigerator shelf. If promptly refrigerated, they will stay fresh and delicious for several weeks.

We strive to ensure that King Grove Organic Farm blueberries are the highest and best quality blueberries you can buy. We grow these blueberries in a truly organic outdoor farming system, without any synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. Occasionally we fall short of picking and delivering the perfect berry.

If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, please click here to contact us as soon as possible. We want to know if something has gone wrong and we will do our best to make it right!

Because we grow different blueberry varieties, not every box will taste exactly the same. Some may be a little more tart, some may be a little sweeter, but they are all delicious! We are unable to provide refunds based on variety preferences however, please let us know as soon as possible if your blueberries arrive spoiled, soft or have other quality issues. Please include your order details. Photos showing the top of the interior box (including the small white sticker on the corner) and the blueberries would be helpful for us in determining what went wrong so we can fix it!

DRY ICE INFORMATION

We use Dry Ice when shipping our FROZEN blueberries to ensure they arrive at a desirable temperature.

Dry Ice is extremely cold at -109.3°F or -78.5°C and should be handled with protective gloves (an oven mitt or towel will also work). Avoid contact with skin, mouth, eyes, and clothing. Serious injury can occur.

Dispose of Dry Ice by letting the unused portion dissipate in a well-ventilated area, and not left in a public area or where it can be accessed by children or pets.

You should never dispose of Dry Ice in a sink, toilet or similar places. It can destroy the structure because of temperature differences.

Do not place Dry Ice on a tiled or solid surface countertop.

Do not dispose of in trash or garbage.
